FCI SPECIALTY SHOW

As part of the AKIHO United Europe Shibuten weekend, exhibitors will also have the opportunity to participate in an FCI Specialty Show for Akitas, organized in cooperation with KCHMPP z.s.

The show will take place on Saturday, 17 October 2026, at the same venue as the AKIHO United Europe Shibuten, allowing exhibitors to experience both the FCI and AKIHO exhibition systems during a single weekend dedicated entirely to the Akita Inu.

Judge:

Mrs MAUREEN THOMPSON (UK)

I began judging in the UK in 1984 and have more than 40 years’ experience exhibiting, breeding and judging Dobermanns, Rottweilers, American Akitas and Akita Inus.

Together with my partner, Peter, I have bred and owned Champions in all four breeds. I am approved by the Royal Kennel Club to award Challenge Certificates for Dobermann, Rottweiler, American Akita, Japanese Akita Inu, Japanese Shiba Inu and Eurasier. I have also judged other breeds across several groups, as well as Best in Show appointments at all-breed open shows in the UK. Since 2011, I have been FCI-approved to judge Akita and American Akita and have judged both breeds in several countries across Europe.

We have focused on the Akita since 2007 and TSOYU kennel has played a key role in introducing and developing

the Japanese Akita Inu in the UK, working with breeders nationally and internationally to advance the breed. Since 2009, our Akitas have been shown across Europe, with at least 15 achieving Champion and/or International Champion titles. Between 2009 and 2025, TSOYU has been recognised 18 times as a Top UK Breeder. Dogs bred by us have won numerous BOB, BOS and BPIB awards at Crufts, UK and European specialty shows. Crufts 2026 gave us the historic honour of dogs from our kennel being awarded the first set of Challenge Certificates. I have a keen focus on health in the Akita and strongly encourage others to take a deep interest. I also hold the important role of Breed Education Co-ordinator. Acting on behalf of my breed club to provide education and mentoring opportunities for aspiring judges in the UK.

A dedicated large ring reserved exclusively for Akitas will provide comfortable judging conditions and plenty of space for exhibitors and spectators.

Every puppy and minor puppy entered in the exhibition will receive a commemorative rosette.

In addition, every dog awarded one of the following titles will receive a trophy:

CAJC, CAC, rCAC, Specialty Junior Winner, Specialty Winner, Specialty Veteran Winner, BOJ (Best Junior), BOS (Best of Opposite Sex), BOV (Best Veteran), BOB (Best of Breed)

Dogs awarded BOJ-BOS-BOV-BOB will additionally receive a large honorary rosette.
